LGBTQIA+ icons: Celebrating diversity and innovation

LGBTQIA+

In celebration of Pride month, we would like to honor a few members of the LGBTQIA+ community who embody Wicresoft’s core values.

Forward motion

Long past but leaving a legacy of forward motion, Oscar Wilde—literary great and icon—pushed through his trials and brought awareness simply by being himself.

“[His] …proud and joking attitude to sexuality is one that the LGBTQ+ community should uphold today; when challenged, criminalized or accused, one should stand proud in their identity,” as written by The Bristonian columnist, AJ Birt. “We will continue to see Wilde’s visage in LGBT spaces as well as literary ones due to his prominence of personality, and the overwhelming evidence of his sexuality.  Such an overwhelmingly queer figure cannot be called anything other than a nineteenth century ‘gay icon’.”

Data driven

No computer scientist can excel without being data-driven, and the work of Sophie Wilson proves just that—particularly if you’re reading this on a smart device.

Wilson’s creation of the programming architecture for the original ARM chip touches the hearts (and fingertips) around the world. “The ARM processor core is now used in thousands of different products, from mobile phones and tablets to digital televisions and video games. The number of ARM processor cores now shipped exceeds 30 billion, or more than four ARM microprocessors for every person on earth,” as noted by the CHM (Computer History Museum).

Diversity, equity, and inclusion

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are the passions of Todd Sears, CEO and founder of OUTLEADERSHIP (OL).

“[Sears] created the first team of financial advisors in Wall Street focused on the LGBTQ+ community…” according to the OL website. His company continues to coach organizations worldwide in providing an inclusive environment for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Curiosity

Finding curiosity among the stars, Dr. Sally Ride—a NASA retiree—made history by being both the first woman and youngest astronaut in space.

In the aftermath of the 1986 Challenger explosion, Dr. Ride leveraged that curiosity to find answers. “She was named to the presidential commission investigating the disaster, and she helped bring to light the fact that NASA management knew the shuttle’s O-rings could fail in cold temperatures,” according to the University of California San Diego (CSD).

Customer experience

Jonathan Mildenhall, Executive Chair and Co-founder of TwentyFirstCenturyBrand, understands the importance of customer experience in building a brand—so much so—he encourages Customer Service leaders to actively participate in brainstorming sessions, according to Business Insider. “Amazing things will happen when you listen to the consumer,” Mildenhall said during his keynote speech at the 2015 ANA Masters of Marketing Conference in Orlando, Florida.
